Meet Our Team
Principal Jeems qualifications are attributed to the degree completion at Mississippi Valley State University where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. After which, she attended The University of Memphis where she received a Master of Education in Teaching Instruction and Curriculum. Her concluding degree was earned at Freed Hardeman University where she obtained an Education Specialist Degree.
Latoya Jeems has worked in turn around schools alongside great leaders with record success. The success can be attributed to implementing a comprehensive instructional plan, developing strategic operational strategies, creating effective ways to build teacher capacity and cultivating a culture of two-way communication between all stakeholders for the betterment of scholars. Mrs. Jeems believes Coleman School is a premier school where everyone will actively participate in the success of each scholar.
Avis’s most treasured personal values are integrity, creativity, and excellence. These values guide Avis’s decision making, relationships, and products, and are visible in how she expresses her full self in the work environment. Outside of work, Avis enjoys crafting, watching crime dramas, reading fiction, and most of all, sharing quality time with her tribe.
In 2015, Ms. Parks joined the Aspire Hanley family, as a 5th grade teacher. At Hanley, she served as an educator, mentor teacher, and 3-5 Math instructional lead for four years. She also worked very closely with the regional team in the K-8 Math Working Group for Phase I and Phase II. In 2018, she was selected as Teacher of the Year. Currently, she is serving as the Development Coach of Instruction for Math and Science for 3rd-5th grades.
Ms. Parks stands firmly on the belief of creating and being the change we want to see in order to change the narrative for our students. She loves teaching and building meaningful relationships with all stakeholders. She is a strong advocate for creating life-long memories with students!
Principal’s Message
Greetings Journey Coleman Community!
It is with great pride and excitement that I serve as your school principal. I’m honored to lead a school where excellence is displayed in and out of the classroom daily.
Coleman has earned a reputation of academic excellence through the hard work of students, teachers, parents and staff. The growth and achievement of students are both highlights of the passion every teacher embodies. Journey Coleman is proud to deliver challenging academic courses, academic enrichment to include an explicit prescription for what each scholar needs, bi-weekly student clubs, athletic programs and various arts programs.
At Coleman, we believe that we are creating a tradition of excellence that will eliminate barriers making the impossible possible. It’s important for our scholars to be connected to school through positive relationships and to have a strong sense of belonging. I believe that every scholar can learn and be successful if provided with the right conditions. Our teachers and staff are committed to providing all students with an appropriate and challenging educational experience in a respectful environment that fosters learning and growth.
I look forward to meeting each of you to establish and maintain a positive relationship that will lead to improved student achievement and growth.
Thank you for choosing Coleman School and allowing my team and me to work with your children each day.
Educationally,
Latoya Jeems, Principal
